hand washed fleece
Washing a raw fleece is a time consuming business. You have to wash the fibre in hot soapy water many times to remove as much dust, sand, vegetable matter, and Lanolin (if you're talking wool), then you have to rinse and dry!
If you love the idea of carding up (either by hand, drum carder or flick carder) and spinning a fleece straight from the back of the animal, but don't want the effort of washing it, then we have a selection of washed fleeces for you to choose from.
We are selling in lots of 100gms, so that you can have a play with the fleece without having to commit to huge quantities.
There will, however, be a certain amount of vegetable matter, and sand/grub left in these washed fleeces (it's impossible to get squeaky clean), but this will be removed during the carding process, and again once the finished spun yarn is washed and set.
The price per 100gm reflects the extra hours each fleece took to wash.
